It’s been quite awhile since I mentioned my hair here on the blog. As you may have noticed in several of my most recent Fashion Friday posts, I’ve been wearing it up or in a ponytail a lot over the summer. I don’t want it in my face when I’m golfing or kayaking and it’s much more comfortable if it’s off my neck on hot days. In spite of the fact that my twice a year cancer treatments cause significant thinning, I still have a very heavy mane!
Though I won’t do anything until golfing season is over, I’m contemplating going for a shorter cut in the fall. The question is how short? That’s where I’d like your input. The following five photos show the progression from short to long that’s taken place over the past two years. In the comment section below, please tell me which length you prefer.

#1 was taken in the fall of 2016 a few months before I decided on a whim to start growing it out. At the time I didn’t have a particular length in mind, but after keeping it short for many years, I simply wanted a change. #2 was taken five months later shortly after I started letting it grow.

As it grew longer, I discovered “plopping” and began to embrace my natural curls. #3 was taken at the beginning of October 2017.

My hair has always grown quickly, but once it reached this point it really seemed to take off and #4 was taken less than two months later!

#5 was taken in April of this year. I had a trim shortly after that, but it’s at least this long again now.

So my question for you is this: when summer is over, should I cut it short, leave it long, or go for something in between? Your response can be as simple as one digit (#1, 2, 3, 4, or 5) or you can explain your thoughts.
Darn, I always have my hair cut like #1. I never like to fuss. But I must admit I think #5 looks the best. Maybe I should be rethinking my own cut, though I don’t have all those pretty curls.
There’s definitely much to be said for a no fuss hairdo! Thanks for commenting, Rosalyn.
It’s number 1 or 2 from me. Cute & Easy… but here’s a suggestion… Trust your Stylist, Ask for her input. Much like Fashion, A Hair Stylist is trained to look at your face shape, hair texture and if you wear glasses or not, There’s a variety of things that a Stylist considers during the consultation session of your appointment. I’ve found their opinion to have the most value…. after all that’s part of what you pay for! 💵💳💇🏻
I will definitely be talking with her about it.
#3 is my fave. After that, #4. Personally, I think #5 is too heavy and long.
I tend to agree with you, Dale. Thanks for commenting.
#2 – It give your face a lift and looks more youthful. The longer ones weight you down. # 1 looks like you have given up on hair.
There are definitely days when I feel like giving up on hair! lol
I like #4 the best. Not too short that it’s “short,” not so long that it’s “long.” Perfectly in the middle, yet doesn’t look like hair that is waiting to be grown out, if you know what I mean.
Thanks, Crystal! That’s a great description.
I like #3. The softness of the curls around you face match your loving disposition. If my hair would curl like that I’d wear mine like that. I don’t like the “wings” in one and two. #4 and #5 are “Heavier” looking.
Aww… thank you, my friend!
Don’t ask me, ask Richard which one he likes best. I’ve had many friends say that after they cut it, their husband had a definite preference for the longer style.
Helen Ann, your comment made me smile! I will definitely consult him, but he’ll likely say to do whatever I want with it. 🙂
I think #4 is my favourite. The perfect length to frame your face. 😊
Thanks!
I like #4, I think it perfectly frames your face. It gives enough length to leave you styling options, and with your natural curls, it’s very youthful 🤗
Thanks, Trudy! I do like the versatility that that length offers.
My favourite is #3. But I also like #1 as I think it makes you look younger (not that your”old”).
Thanks, Geraldine!
I like #3 or 4 the best, although I think you could do the length of 5 if you had your stylist shape it to be less boxy and full at ear level.
We actually talked about that last time I had a trim. We were still waiting for some shorter bits to grow out, but you’re right. It definitely needs some shaping. Thanks, Kari!
I love #3!!
Thanks!

Anything but 5 – it is too heavy. I know I prefer the length of 1 for ease of care. I really would trust my stylist – for me it is “wash and go”, not “wash, blow dry and go” If you are going to wear long hair tied back then 1 is more attractive. You look beautiful no matter what.
Thanks, Anne! It’s definitely too heavy right now. I’ve been tying it back a lot over the summer, but I probably won’t once the cooler weather arrives. If I was going to do that, I’d definitely cut it short again. I rarely ever use a blow dryer.
