How to elevate a simple jeans and shirt outfit

In last Friday’s post, you saw this simple jeans and shirt outfit featuring one of my latest thrift store finds.

It’s a comfy, casual look great for wearing around the house or going for a walk, but today I want to show you how I would elevate the look a bit.

First, I unbuttoned the shirt and added a cami underneath. I tried white, but with the pale coloured shirt it looked blah and I looked washed out. Besides, it’s laundry day at our house and all my light coloured bras are in the wash. For me, a black bra under a white top is a no go. The rusty red coloured cami was a much better choice.

Next, I rolled up the cuffs and added a belt and some accessories. Considering the fact that the two main pieces are a pair of jeans and a cotton shirt, it’s still a casual look, but definitely a little classier than the first one.

You can’t see my footwear in either photo, but in the first one I was wearing sneakers. For the second look, I might choose a dressier pair of shoes or at this time of year, a pair of booties. After all, there are snowflakes in the air as I look out the window this morning and we’re back to taking fashion photos indoors. 😦

  1. Yes! I much prefer that look, it’s something I would do for sure. I would add earrings in the color of the cami.

So you have snowflakes! We have chilly Autumnal weather but it’s dry. I am waiting for the last leaves to fall so I can have the landscapers remove the lot! I cannot do it without hurting my back, should not complain since I’ll be 80 in January- what a grim thought!

    • My earrings aren’t very visible in the photo, but they’re a mix of silver and gold, similar to the necklace, but not matching.

80 is a milestone! I hope you’re planning to celebrate.

      • I bet that looks great and is way better than my suggestion of earrings the same color as the cami! I had my ears pierced in my 40’s and I do enjoy the way they “finish” the look of an outfit! Dreadful day today, drizzle and threats of winds. My daughter and son in law flew back from Zurich to Chicago on Thursday and were only 40 mins behind my younger brother in England flying From London to Newark. He is on holiday in Panama now and the weather looks really good! Not sure about the 80. I have friends but don’t really do parties. I think d and s in law will come to Bellingham and we will have a lovely dinner out with my best couple friends, they were here for me when John was dying and we all love them.

I welcome your opinion. Please leave a comment.
